Every cellist's teacher, Pablo Casals

Art is sometimes recognized for its value over time.

The same goes for music.

And there's always a discoverer for that art to be reevaluated.

Mendelssohn's performance of Bach's "Matthew Passion" is also an example of how he made the world aware of the existence of a huge masterpiece.

"Cello Suite” that be considered the same as the Old Testament to the cello players is also a reevaluation song at the future generations.

And the musician who discovered the song was cellist "Pablo Casals.

At the age of 13, Casals discovered the score of Bach's "Cello Suite" at a classical music store in Barcelona, and after 12 years of practice, he played it in public to let the world know its true value.

Can you imazine his hardworking for practicing a one song for 12 years

There are many anecdotes that suggest Pablo Casals' efforts.

A reporter asked Casals, an old man.

"Your performance is already perfect. Why do you keep practicing?”

And Casals responds like this.

"Because I feel that my skills have improved a little after practicing.”

Another remark by Pablo Casals is also impressive.

"I was a cellist who had not an ounce of talent.

But I practiced the cello 24 hours a day with all my heart, and people called me a master of cello.

I will play the cello until the day my breath runs out."

Pablo Casals, whose music and his efforts were enough to be respected,

He's also teaching people another lesson throughout his life.

In 1939, Casals' homeland of Spain was ruled by the Franco dictatorship.

He strongly protested against it and resists it through his performance.

And Franco's aide threatens him like this.

"Pablo Casals!

Catch it and I'll end your incitement.

And I'll cut off the both arms from the elbow."

But Casals' efforts to escape Franco and continue his resistance were futile.

Many countries, including the United Kingdom, had diplomatic relations with the Franco regime.

And Casals protests and declares that he's not going to play in England.

The British government tells him to understand the complexity of diplomacy.

And Casals responds like this.

"We won't be able to understand each other. You talk about politics, I speak of principles."

He never returned to his country again, and in 1955, he defected to Puerto Rico and ended his life.

And Casals always plays the Spanish Catalan folk music "El cant dels ocells" at the end of the concert, remembering his hometown where he can't go back.

In honor of Casals' spirit, I post Pablo Casals' song of the bird.

Please enjoy it.

"Birds in my hometown of Catalonia sing 'Peace, Peace' when they fly into the blue sky."
