In 1920, a pianist was born in Orcinuobi, Italy,

who will dominate one generation of music society.

 

His name is Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.

 

 

 

 

He was a genius who gave his first concert at the age of 6,

entered the Verdi Conservatory in Milan at the age of 10,

had a college student at the age of 11,

and graduated from school at the age of 13,

saying there was nothing more to learn.

 

 

 

 

When 1939 competition in Geneva, Switzerland, one of the judges,

pianist Alfred Denis Cortot praised him saying,

"A new liszt has been created."

 

 

 

 

But after college, he became interested in medicine and studied hard for six years.

 

And participated in a car racing competition and won a prize.

 

 

 

 

He served as an Air Force pilot in World War II,

but his plane was shot down and imprisoned in a concentration camp,

He was escaped in eight months and engaging in anti-fascist movements underground.

 

He was a pianist whose movements were also unusual.

 

 

 

 

Michelangeli is also famous for being a great perfectionist.

 

He did not miss 10 hours of practice every day even with a weak body,

and he accompanied his piano and his piano tuner every time he played.

 

 

 

 

Michelangeli was so stricted because pursued so perfect.

 

Even he I brought a piano, but often canceled concerts if wasn't prepared for a perfect environment.

 

If opinions were not coordinated with the conductor, he did not play.

 

 

 

 

He even refused to play because his hands were cold or the air conditioner was on, or because the audience coughed three times.

In 1968, Bologna's BDM record label, which signed Michelangelo, went bankrupt, and Italian judges ruled that Michelangelo should pay 900 million lira.

 

This deprived him of his house, his two pianos, and his guarantee of playing, and so on, he decided not to play in Italy again and moved to Switzerland.

 

 

 

 

After that, He didn't play in Italy again

People with Italy's nationality is prohibited in his performance.

 

In fact, in London in 1993, he canceled four concerts cause organizer selling more than 80 tickets to Italians.

 

 

 

 

His picky personality created a barrier between art and his life,

Michelangeli, who was preparing to play, was always serious, and his music was always perfect.

 

 

 

 

In 1995,

At Michelangeli's funeral, his student and pianist Maurizio Pollini says.

 

 

 

 

"One of the greatest pianists of all time has died. My sadness is extreme.

 

The memory of his art will forever be etched in our hearts, along with the memory of the epitome of a human being devoted to artistic ideals in an absolute way."

 

 

 

 

As Pollini said, he will always be remembered as great pianists in our hearts.
